Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Facheris serves as our Chief Medical Officer. Prior to joining Vanqua Bio, Maurizio was a Senior Medical Director in Neuroscience Development at AbbVie, where he oversaw the clinical development of therapeutic approaches for Parkinson’s disease, including successfully bringing to approval foslevodopa/foscarbidopa for subcutaneous infusion. Maurizio received his M.D. from the University of Brescia, Italy and attended his residency in Neurology at the University of Milano, Italy. He completed his fellowship in Movement Disorders and his Master in clinical research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Upon returning to Italy, he worked at the outpatient clinic for Movement Disorders at the Central Hospital of Bolzano, Italy, before joining the staff of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, where he focused on defining strategies related to symptomatic therapies for Parkinson’s disease and collaborated with the Parkinson Progression Markers Initiative and with consortia for genetic parkinsonisms. He has served as the industry co-chair of the Critical Path for Parkinson’s consortium and is part of the Industry Scientific Advisory Board of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. His clinical and research area of interest has always been Parkinson’s disease and other atypical parkinsonisms and has encompassed efforts to develop novel clinical outcome measures and biomarkers, including digital health technologies for clinical trials.
